Craig Hoy, the leader of the Scottish Conservatives, has now written to Richard Tice, the leader of the Reform Party, urging him to take action.

The constituency is an important battleground for the party, as Douglas Ross is running against Seamus Logan of the SNP. The result is likely to be close.

The selection of the Scottish Tory leader as candidate was controversial, with the party’s executive barring former Scottish Office minister David Duguid from running for the new seat because he was allegedly too ill – a claim Mr Duguid denies.

Mr Ross subsequently announced his intention to “lead from the front” and stand instead, despite previously promising not to stand for Westminster and to focus on Holyrood.

The outcry led him to announce his resignation as leader of the Scottish Tories.

Yesterday’s Ipsos mega-poll showed that Reform could receive 11 percent of the vote in this constituency, while the Tories would receive 27 percent and the SNP 42 percent.

The comments on Ms Hart’s Facebook were first reported in the Daily Mail.

Speaking during the four-day bank holiday weekend to mark the Queen becoming the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, Ms Hart said said: “But then comes the Jubilee and our ‘glorious monarch’ has never known the hardship of having to choose between heating and eating. She doesn’t have to worry about whether the lights stay on or not. In fact, the many, MANY millions squandered on the Jubilee celebrations didn’t even come out of her pocket, but from the Treasury.

“This enormously lavish light show in the palace is nothing more than a slap in the face for us ordinary people who are currently struggling with our energy bills!”

He concluded: ‘So this weekend, when you get the pennants out and celebrate the anniversary, just use your totally washed brain and think instead about how much nonsense this all actually is.

“All the time I hear people complaining about welfare parasites… THE BIGGEST WELFARE parasites ARE THE MONARCHY. IT’S TIME TO ABOLISH THEM! FUCK THE ROYALS! #makelizzythelast.”

In his letter to Mr Tice, Mr Hoy wrote: “Your candidate appears to have written ‘Fuck the Royals’ and compared the late Queen and the entire Royal Family to ‘welfare parasites.'”

“It was reported that during the Jubilee, when the whole of Britain united to celebrate the achievements and sacrifice of the late Queen, your candidate said the monarchy must be abolished.

“This reform candidate must be suspended immediately.

“If you do not act, you are saying that these anti-British comments are acceptable.

“They send a clear message that the reform movement appears to tolerate disgusting insults towards the late Queen and shameful anti-monarchist views.

“You must publicly condemn this candidate and suspend him immediately.”

Reform was asked for comment.
