Hyderabad: A sub-inspector of Kaleshwaram police in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district was arrested and dismissed from service on Wednesday after he raped a woman constable at gunpoint, reports said.

Sub-Inspector PVS Bhavanisen Goud, a native of Asifabad, is accused of sexually harassing female officers and raping a policewoman. Police seized a revolver after the revelations came to light.

The rape incident reportedly took place on June 15 in the old police station building near the Lakshmi pump house of the Kaleshwaram project.

The 42-year-old woman who was raped reported that the SI threatened her with a revolver before the rape, threatened her with severe consequences if she told anyone, and followed her on several occasions.

Allegations of sexual assault by other women:

After she filed a complaint, many more women came forward and cases were registered against him under various sections of the IPC, including 376 (2) (A) (B), 324, 449, 506 and Section 27 of the Arms Act. An investigation is underway to uncover more evidence and investigate the allegations in more detail.

Inspector General of Police AV Ranganath ordered his dismissal under Article 311 of the Constitution after a preliminary investigation confirmed sexual assault on the policewoman.

In July 2022, another case was registered against him at Rebbena police station in Asifabad for sexually harassing a woman on the pretext of helping her prepare for the recruitment exam. He was suspended but later transferred to Kaleshwaram police station.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy demanded strict action against the accused police officer.
