RedHook releases sexually charged “cannibal” video

RedHook have released a music video for their single “Cannibal,” the “dark and sexy industrial stomper,” and yes, it is, as expected, sexually charged.

The Sydney alternative rockers released “Cannibal” last week, a collaboration with Alpha Wolf. RedHook recruited the Melbourne metalcore band to create a song that celebrates sexual liberation, and in particular female sexual empowerment, in heavy music.

According to RedHook singer Emmy Mack, “Cannibal” is “an empowering metal anthem that will help me overcome some of the stigma and shame surrounding sex that I felt long after surviving in South Africa.”

“Consensual sex is one of the greatest things in the world! And we are eternally grateful to the legends of Alpha Wolf for supporting that vision, helping us bring more sexual liberation to the world of heavy music, and most importantly, for collaborating with us to write a dope metal song about oral sex that people can fuck to,” adds Mack.

And now the official music video is here, directed by frequent collaborator and friend of the band, Colin Jeffs of Ten of Swords Media.

The clip taps into the powerful themes of female sexual empowerment and self-conquest expressed in the song by featuring a group of strong women playfully flaunting their dominance while Mack thrashes around in a pool of blood and Alpha Wolf frontman Lochie Keogh also makes a memorable cameo.

“Despite the raunchy nature of this clip, the entire shoot was actually super decent!” says Mack. “I was actually so nervous about challenging myself to create a ‘sexy’ vibe on camera and wanted to make sure I didn’t screw it up, so I asked a few of my buddies to come in the clip with me to give me moral support.”

“It was one of the most fun shoots RedHook has ever done! It felt like a giant pajama party, everyone was dressing up, giggling and having tons of fun. And I especially can’t thank the girls enough for giving me so much strength and courage with their confidence, talent and boundless positive energy.”

If you want to hear ‘Cannibal’ up close and personal in all its glory, RedHook are playing their biggest headline shows in Australia to date in August and September. They’ll be joined by Melbourne melodic rockers The Beautiful Moment, Newcastle pop-punk band Eat Your Heart Out and rising Perth metalcore stars Patient Sixty-Seven (tour info here). RedHook’s upcoming tour follows impressive support slots for legendary bands Jane’s Addiction and Smashing Pumpkins.

“It’s been 16 months since the last soju shots, but we’re ready for a full concert! We couldn’t be more excited to hit the road with this insanely good lineup (to be honest, I’m super excited that the ladies’ room will be especially packed on this tour) and hang out with all of our legendary fans who are the sole reason we do what we do,” says Mack.

RedHook released their debut album, Postcard from hell on earthin 2023, and saw the record reach the top 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart. “Cannibal” is set to be part of a larger release from the band in the near future.

In a powerful Rolling Stone Australia/New Zealand In his essay, Mack elaborated on the meaning behind “cannibal.”

“Cannibal” (ft. Alpha Wolf) by RedHook is out now.
