UPDATE: Man hit and killed after fleeing traffic stop on foot

1 person is dead after a man allegedly fled on foot during a traffic stop and was struck by another vehicle on I-10 West near Raynolds.

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – According to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD), a 53-year-old man was killed during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 West near Raynolds on Tuesday afternoon, June 18, when he attempted to flee on foot and was struck by another vehicle.

The EPPD said special traffic investigators were called to an accident involving a pedestrian on June 18.


According to EPPD, preliminary investigations revealed that an officer was conducting a traffic stop when a passenger, Oscar Munoz, 53, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

According to EPPD, Munoz refused to comply with verbal commands, continued running and attempted to cross the lanes of I-10 West.

As Munoz attempted to cross I-10 West, he was struck by a vehicle and died of his injuries at the scene.

According to EPPD, the pedestrian on the roadway was the primary factor in this collision.

According to the EPPD, this is the 31st traffic fatality in 2024, compared to 35 in 2023.
