Metro Atlanta solicitor general indicted on dozen counts of theft and making false statements – WSB-TV Channel 2

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Hall County’s solicitor general has been indicted on two dozen counts of theft and making false statements.

Attorney General Chris Carr announced Tuesday that Stephanie Woodard has been charged with 11 counts of theft and 13 counts of making false statements and writings.

According to Carr’s office, Woodard illegally acquired funds from Hall County and the Prosecutors’ Council of Georgia to cover his personal expenses from July 2018 to September 2022.

The indictment also alleges that Woodard was reimbursed for travel expenses she had previously submitted or for trips that never occurred.

“Those who are elected to enforce the law must act honestly, ethically and transparently, and anything that goes wrong undermines our system,” Carr said. “The theft of taxpayers’ money and the falsification of documents to cover up this theft is completely unacceptable. As with any case brought by our Public Integrity and White Collar Crime Unit, we follow the facts and evidence to ensure justice is served for the people of Georgia.

The indictment contains several allegations, including that she claimed a meal at a local restaurant was an abuse awareness expense and that a purchase on her P card at Target was for a victim.

Woodward’s lawyer sent Mark Winne, Channel 2 investigative reporter a statement saying:

“MS. Woodard has been a dedicated public servant for 16 years, serving as Solicitor General elected on behalf of the people of Hall County. She is deeply committed to the plight of victims, particularly those affected by domestic violence, and has focused on the recovery and stability of citizens and families, including defendants within its jurisdiction. The decision of the Attorney General’s office to file this absurd indictment against her is unfathomable and a loss. court time and taxpayer money She has committed absolutely no crime, yet she has been viciously pursued by the GBI for years. They have harassed her family, including her children, while the agents were there. aware of the serious health problems they faced. We do not say this lightly: the misguided prosecution is completely wrong, and it can be proven.

Woodard was appointed solicitor general of Hall County by the governor in 2008.
