Investigation into animal neglect in Muscatine leads to rescue of dozens

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Dozens of animals were removed from a property in rural Muscatine after officials executed a search warrant as part of an animal neglect investigation.

According to the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, authorities executed the search warrant on Monday, June 17, and found 67 animals on the property, most of which were inside a residence. Two of the animals were found dead.

The remaining animals are being examined and cared for by the organization It Takes a Village Animal Rescue, authorities said. Autopsies are currently being performed on the two animals found dead.

Due to the conditions inside, authorities have declared the house uninhabitable. It is currently unclear whether one or more people lived in the house.

The investigation is ongoing.
