The victim, 62-year-old Daryle Robinson, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds at Broadway and East 24th in Paterson, New Jersey.

PATERSON, N.J. (WABC) — A community is mourning the loss of a popular street vendor who was shot and killed in Paterson over the weekend.

It happened just after 10:20 a.m. Sunday near East 24th Street and Broadway.

The victim, 62-year-old Daryle Robinson, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital.

He died of his injuries on Tuesday.

Robinson influenced the lives of many people in Paterson and was known for helping anyone in need – offering advice and empathy and being a master of motivation.

“We’re just broken, we’re just trying to find an understanding, we’re just trying to process everything and you have the why – why him and why did this happen,” said his daughter Niomi Moore.

He sold clothing, CDs and films at his stand at the corner of 22nd and Broadway. He and a friend were thinking about starting a business together, and he was a valuable asset to all of his customers.

“He was a good guy, he was calm, relaxed and never messed with anyone,” said a friend.

He lived just a few blocks east of where he opened his retail location.

“I don’t know what happened, but we will miss him very much,” said friend Arlene Demarest.

No arrests have been made and the shooting remains under investigation.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help fund funeral arrangements. However, they say they appreciate the love and support they have received from Paterson residents.

“The love was overwhelming, I knew he was very popular and well known, but I didn’t know it to that extent,” Moore said.
