14-year-old Florida boy charged with sexually abusing 91-year-old woman

A Florida The boy is being held by the juvenile court for sexual abuse.

The 14-year-old boy is accused of breaking into the home of a 91-year-old woman around midnight on June 9 and then beating and sexually assaulting the victim, according to a statement from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Inside Edition Digital does not name the suspect or publish a mug shot because he is a minor.

Investigators arrested the teenager after an “intensive investigation” and finally identified the suspect after discovering DNA Evidence was left at the crime scene, according to the MCSO statement, which was obtained by Inside Edition Digital.

When questioned by a detective, the teenager allegedly admitted to “illegally entering the victim’s home, striking the victim and then sexually assaulting her,” the statement said.

Sheriff Billy Woods spoke about the case after the arrest of the suspect earlier this week.

“I am very proud of the hard work my investigators and forensics team did on this case to reach a quick resolution. This type of unimaginable violence continues to shock me even after all my years in law enforcement,” Woods said.

He then praised the community for its resilience and thanked “all citizens who sent in tips and advice in this case.”

Woods also admitted that he is still trying to work out the details of this crimeand expressed his condolences to the suspect’s family.

“It was a shock that someone would commit such an act against a 91-year-old, but it is truly disturbing when we see the young age of the man arrested. While I firmly believe he should be held accountable for his crime, as a father my sympathies go out to his family,” Woods said.

He added: “Hopefully his arrest will lead to him receiving help to prevent further such acts.”

There is no information yet on whether the teenager will be tried as a juvenile or an adult, and all court and police records related to the case remain sealed because the suspect is a minor.

The teenager’s family did not respond to a request for comment.
