Ukraine restores ferry service to Georgia across the Black Sea, suspended due to Russian invasion

Ukraine is resuming ferry services to Georgia across the Black Sea, which were suspended at the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion. The schedule was published on the website of the operating company Ukrferry.

Due to the threat from the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the ferry service was suspended. Ukraine has now destroyed or damaged at least a third of its ships.

The First The journey from Chornomorsk, Odessa Oblast, to Batumi, Georgia, is scheduled for July 9, with travel time approximately 60 hours.

The route is served by the Kaunas, a car/passenger ferry built in Germany in 1989. The vessel has 250 passenger seats in various cabin types, a restaurant, a bar, a lounge, entertainment areas and a children’s play zone. Its size (over 190 m long, 28 m wide) ensures stability even in rough seas. The ferry can carry 49 railway wagons and 50 TIR trucks at the same time.

The Ukrainian Seaports Authority is also negotiating the resumption of ferry services from Baku, Azerbaijan to Ukraine.
