Police identify man killed in shooting at Oceanside apartment

A man shot to death in an Oceanside apartment early Tuesday has been identified as 26-year-old Alex Hamilton.

Hamilton was visiting residents when someone fired shots through a bedroom window of an apartment in the complex on College Boulevard, at the corner of Aztec Street, north of Oceanside Boulevard, around 1:10 a.m. He was hit in the head and later died in the hospital.

Police cannot yet release any information about the suspect, but are following up on several leads, said police Lt. Bill Weese. He declined to say what led to the shooting.

“I can confirm he was there to visit the residents of that apartment,” Weese said. He said Hamilton was awake in the bedroom when he was shot.

Someone fired a shot from the sidewalk outside and the bullet went through the window, police spokesman Tom Bussey said Tuesday. Others in the apartment sought shelter in a bathroom, he said.
