Man from West Monroe allegedly broke into private home and sexually harassed homeowner

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

WEST MONROE, Louisiana. (KTVE/KARD) – On June 19, 2024 at 6:01 a.m., West Monroe Police were called to a residence for a sexual assault. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the female victim and learned that she had woken up and the suspect, 23-year-old Jefferson Danilo Calel Cruz, was in bed next to her after her husband left for work.

According to the affidavit, Cruz was accused of sitting on the victim and touching her genital area. When the victim realized the male victim was not her husband, she began screaming, “Who are you?”

Authorities were also told that the victim’s husband came home and heard the victim screaming. The victim’s husband grabbed Cruz and forced him to leave the house.

According to police, they contacted Cruz at his residence and learned that the victim’s husband had allegedly invited Cruz to view pornography. Cruz told police he left the residence at the same time as the victim’s husband. However, the victim and her husband told police they did not know Cruz or invite him to their home.

Cruz was arrested and charged with sexual assault and trespassing on an occupied dwelling. His appearance in Fourth District Court is scheduled for June 20, 2024.
