A little girl has died after being attacked by a dog in her family’s home in the West Midlands.

The seven-month-old was taken to hospital with serious head injuries following the attack on Shorncliffe Road in Coventry on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, she died a short time later.

The pet dog, which was not classified as a dangerous breed, was removed from the house and killed.

A statement from West Midlands Police said: “A baby has tragically died after being bitten by a dog at a house in Coventry.”

“We were called to a property on Shorncliffe Road shortly after 3pm on Sunday. Together with our colleagues from the emergency services, we were on site within a few minutes.

“A seven-month-old girl suffered serious head injuries after being bitten by the family dog ​​in the house. She was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to hospital for further treatment.
