Watch: Van crashes into South Buffalo home

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Home surveillance video shows a pickup truck crash into a parked SUV and a home early Saturday morning, causing significant damage.

Residents want the driver to be held accountable.

The house is located in the 1500 block of Seneca Street in South Buffalo. The damaged SUV is now in a parking lot across the street.

Residents want to know more about what happened moments before the crash, why the driver, a 21-year-old West Seneca woman, is not facing charges and why she was not cited.

Home surveillance video of the crash shows an unmarked moving van losing control and crashing into a black SUV and a house. No injuries were reported. People woke up to see a lot of damage and a broken natural gas line.

“So we woke everyone out of the house, told them, ‘Get out of the house, evacuate the house,’ and we called 911,” Donald Dingeldey said. “I called the insurance company and since then I’ve consulted three or four adjusters and I still haven’t heard anything.”

Dingeldey and his wife Suzanne are now going through an insurance disaster and say their SUV is insured. They wonder why the driver of the pickup truck hasn’t been cited.

A police report says she looked at her phone, which caused her to lose control and crash. Police say there were no signs of impairment and the driver misjudged the turn.

“It’s eye-opening to see something like this happen to you, you know, and then to get no response from anywhere and dealing with the insurance company, it’s just been a headache,” said Dingeldey. “I’m trying to run my business and take care of all of this at the same time and it’s been just a headache.”

Residents say speeding is a big problem in the area and want the speed limit lowered. A city spokesperson said the city was in the design phase of an urban development project for that area and that speed bumps could be considered.
