Pawtucket Police Announce Arrest After Shooting

PAWTUCKET, RI (WLNE) – Pawtucket Police announced an arrest following a shooting yesterday afternoon.

Jose Medina Alvarez, 20, was arrested on numerous charges, including aggravated assault, drive-by shooting, discharging a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, carrying a pistol without a permit and shooting in a confined space.

According to a press release, Pawtucket police responded to a report of a shooting at the corner of West Avenue and Jefferson Street around 2:45 p.m.

When they arrived, officers discovered a crime scene with several cartridge cases on the ground and blood.

An investigation by detectives revealed that a suspect’s vehicle approached the crime scene and two people got out.

The victim, a 19-year-old adult male, exited the store and one of the suspects fired shots at the victim, hitting him multiple times.

Both attackers fled the scene and fired shots as they drove away.

The victim’s friends who were present at the scene took the victim to a nearby hospital.

Officers and investigators managed to obtain a vehicle description and locate and arrest three people.

Alvarez was eventually charged.

The victim’s condition remains critical.
