1 dead in wrong-way crash involving semi-truck on I-80/94 in Indiana – NBC Chicago

Traffic has been backed up and delays are expected following a wrong-way accident involving a semi-trailer truck on I-80/94 in Indiana that left one person dead.

According to Indiana State Police, the accident occurred at 1:10 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-80/94 near the Calumet Avenue exit.

A white SUV and a semi-trailer truck were involved in the accident, police said. Officials said the SUV was driving in the wrong direction.

The driver of the SUV was killed, police said.

As of 6 a.m., there was still heavy traffic and congestion as the accident investigation continued. Police are expected to clear the area later Wednesday morning.

Lisa Chavarria of NBC 5 reported that the accident occurred in an area with construction and a new roadway layout.
