Allen County EMA issues ozone warning

LIMA — The Allen County Emergency Management Agency has issued an Ozone Warning for Wednesday, June 19 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

To reduce ozone production, the EMA recommends carpooling, cycling, parking vehicles in shaded areas, mowing the lawn only after the alert period, refueling early in the morning or after 6 p.m., and avoiding outdoor charcoal grilling during the alert period.

“At high concentrations, ozone can irritate the respiratory tract, causing throat irritation, coughing and/or difficulty breathing. The ability of our lungs to supply our bodies with oxygen is reduced. This is especially concerning for children, asthmatics and other sensitive individuals,” the Allen County EMA website states.
