One man arrested, another suspect after shooting at Glenbrook Mall | News

Two people are hospitalized after the shooting, including one person who was shot in the foot while another person broke his foot as people responded to the shooting.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) – Fort Wayne police say they are searching for the man who shot a person in the foot at Glenbrook Mall.

Police say they have arrested a man who was involved in the shooting, although he didn’t actually pull the trigger.

Two people are hospitalized after the shooting, including one person who was shot in the foot while another person broke his foot as people responded to the shooting.

Both victims have non-life-threatening injuries.

FWPD says they responded to the shooting in the food court at Glenbrook Mall on Saturday around 2:41 p.m.

“We all just started running,” said Diana Armbruster, a woman who was at the mall during the shooting. “I came into a shop. I don’t even remember the store and I said to the guy, ‘There’s a shooter,’ and he closed the door, took us into the back rooms and we stayed there until they took us out.”

Officials from other agencies and the Fort Wayne Fire Department helped usher shoppers and employees out of the mall.

“We were just in the food court enjoying our meal. Then we heard four shots from behind, somehow slowing down. One, two, it was like they were aiming, so I don’t know if they shot one.” “So we just ran out and left our food. It was really scary,” said Ari Jones, one of three basketball teammates who ran out of the mall together.

“Our first instinct was to just run, leave the area, tell people to leave, get out the doors,” said Sean Shenker, who exited the mall alongside Jones.

The mall remained closed for the rest of Saturday.

Police arrested 22-year-old Brandon Key Jr. He is charged with Level 6 Criminal Recklessness, Intimidation and Misdemeanor Resisting Law Enforcement – Escape.

FWPD says he was one of two men armed with guns, although it says Key did not fire.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Fort Wayne police at 427-1201 and Crime Stoppers at 436-7867 or use the free P3 Tips app.

Because Armbruster – an Ohio woman spending the weekend in Fort Wayne shopping with her family – says she wants a change.

“That has to stop. That has to stop. People need to stop doing this. I don’t care what happens to you. You don’t have to go to a mall with families and kids – and grandmas and grandpas, etc. – nieces and nephews – and shoot. It’s just not right,” Armbruster said.

This is the third shooting at Glenbrook Mall in the past year, following separate shootings in July and September 2023.
