Puneet Bsanti / The News Tribune (TNS)

One person was killed and two others injured in a three-vehicle crash in Parkland on Tuesday.

Pierce County officials were dispatched to 99th Street South and A Street South at 9:04 a.m. One of the drivers was extricated from his vehicle by Central Pierce and Tacoma fire departments. The driver died at the hospital, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sergeant Darren Moss told The News Tribune.

The other two drivers were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Witnesses said a garbage truck was parked on the side of the road on A Street collecting trash cans. A black pickup truck crossed into the oncoming lane at a high rate of speed, ran a stop sign and collided with a tow truck, which was pushed into the victim’s vehicle, Moss said.

The driver of the pickup truck is being investigated for negligent homicide.
