Justin Timberlake arrested for drunk driving in the Hamptons

Pop singer Justin Timberlake was arrested and charged with drunken driving after he ignored a stop sign and twice left his lane in New York City’s upscale Hamptons neighborhood, authorities said Tuesday.

Timberlake was arrested Tuesday morning in the town of Sag Harbor on Long Island, according to a statement from the local prosecutor’s office.

The 43-year-old was arraigned in Sag Harbor Village Court and released, the statement said. His next court date will be a virtual appearance on July 26, the statement said.

According to court documents, Timberlake was spotted by police shortly after midnight in a gray 2025 BMW. According to the documents, Timberlake did not stop at any stop signs and failed to stay on the right side of the road twice.

When he was stopped by police, Timberlake’s eyes were “bloodshot and glassy, his breath had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, he was unable to divide his attention, was unsteady on his feet, and performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” the documents say.

Representatives for Timberlake did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The singer’s lawyer, Ed Burke, told Us Weekly that the punishment was an isolated incident because he refused to take a breathalyzer test.”

“Mr. Timberlake was also charged with two additional violations in court for disregarding a stop sign and not driving in the proper lane,” Burke told the outlet.

People magazine reported that Timberlake was taken into custody after leaving a dinner at the American Hotel.

Timberlake rose to fame in the 1990s as a member of the boy band ‘N Sync before launching a solo career. His hits include “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”, “Suit & Tie” and “SexyBack”.

In 2004, during the Super Bowl halftime show in Houston, Timberlake ripped off part of Janet Jackson’s garment, briefly exposing her breast; this was attributed to a “wardrobe malfunction”.

In 2018, he returned as a headliner at the Super Bowl halftime show.

The singer is currently in the middle of his “Everything I Thought It Was” tour. This weekend there are two concerts in Chicago and next week two shows in New York City.
