Fatal shooting not related to the festival

WADSWORTH, Ohio (WJW) – The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to the scene of a fatal police-involved shooting late Tuesday night, Wadsworth police said in a news release.

They also said social media posts linking the shooting to the Wadsworth Blue Tip Festival or parade were false.

Police said they were called to a home on Durling Drive shortly after 9 p.m. where an armed man was threatening suicide in his backyard.

Officers said shots were fired shortly after they arrived at the scene. It was unclear if the man or the officers fired the shots.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His age and identity were not released until family was notified, police said.

Wadsworth police said the officers involved have been placed on leave.

BCI will conduct the investigation, which is standard practice in police-involved shootings.
