Days after a Mumbai doctor found a human finger in an ice cream cone ordered online, a video has gone viral showing a family discovering a dead mouse in a bottle of Hershey’s chocolate syrup they ordered from quick-commerce company Zepto. The video also shows hair sticking out of the bottle.

Prami Sridhar shared the video on Instagram and said three family members drank the contaminated syrup before realising the problem and one of them had to undergo a medical examination. “We ordered Hershey’s chocolate syrup from Zepto to eat with brownie cakes. We started pouring it over the cakes. Little hairs kept falling out. Then we decided to open it. The opening was sealed and intact. We opened it and poured it into a disposable glass. A thick and hard consistency of a dead rat fell out. Washing under running water to restore the texture. It is a dead rat,” she wrote on Instagram and shared the video.

Shortly after the video went viral, Hershey’s responded: “Hi, we are very sorry to hear this. Please send us the bottle UPC and manufacturing code to [email protected] with reference number 11082163 so a member of our team can assist you!”

The viral video shows the family emptying the bottle into a cup. As the video continues, the family notices something in the chocolate syrup. To find out what it is, they hold it under running water and discover that it is a dead mouse.

Sridhar wrote in her post that the family tried to file a complaint with the company — without specifying whether it was Zepto or Hershey’s — and said they had not received a response. The post also said that a girl who consumed the syrup fainted and had to be taken to a hospital, but said she was “fine.”

Festive offer

Sridhar ended the post with a warning to check the products before offering them to children in the home. “This is extremely concerning and unacceptable. We are concerned about the health risks and lack of quality control,” Sridhar wrote, calling for a “full investigation” and “assurances that this will not happen again.”

In other news, a couple from Bengaluru received a cobra with their Amazon parcel. The viral video showed the snake wriggling as it stuck to the black tape.
