Suspect arrested after bus shooting, woman in Baldwin Park hospital

A suspect was arrested Tuesday after a woman was shot during an altercation on a bus in Baldwin Park.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the shooting occurred around 6 p.m. Monday on a Foothill Transit bus traveling in the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway east of Puente Avenue.

The suspect, Juan Mario Trejo, 32, of West Covina, was riding the bus when he allegedly got into an argument with the bus driver and another male passenger.

During the argument, Trejo reportedly pulled out a gun before the altercation turned physical, authorities said.

During the altercation, Trejo fired several shots from the gun, one of which struck a nearby passenger who was not involved in the altercation.

After the shots were fired, the bus driver pulled over to the side of the road. The suspect got out and fled.

When officers arrived at the scene, the injured woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There were about 17 people on the bus when the shooting occurred.

Authorities noted that there were numerous surveillance cameras nearby that helped them locate and identify the suspect.

On Tuesday, Trejo was arrested in Los Angeles on attempted murder charges. He is being held on $1 million bail.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to call the CHP Southern Division Major Crimes Unit at 323-644-9550.
