Madison County, KY deputy finds missing child from Virginia AMBER Alert

BEREA, Ky. (FOX 56) – Police said they have found a child featured in an AMBER Alert out of Virginia, along with the woman who allegedly kidnapped the child.

In a Facebook post, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Deputy Shane Johnson responded to a call for a driver requiring assistance in the 5800 block of Battlefield Memorial Highway.


The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said Johnson was able to identify Ashley Griffith, 30, of Gate City, Virginia, and upon further investigation discovered an AMBER Alert for an Endangered Child and an arrest warrant for Griffith for kidnapping .

According to Nexstar’s WAVY, Virginia State Police said the child, 10-month-old Cedar Samuel Griffith, was believed to have been abducted by Griffith. The AMBER Alert was issued around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday after authorities said the reported kidnapping occurred around 8:18 p.m. on Monday.

Authorities said Griffith was charged with resisting arrest and fleeing out of state.

Griffith was booked into the Madison County Detention Center and the missing child was taken into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.
