Police are searching for a peeping Tom on Indy’s north side

INDIANAPOLIS – Imagine enjoying a relaxing evening in front of the TV while someone else is outside your house watching you at the same time.

This spooky scenario has some neighbors to the north on edge and police on the lookout.

“I didn’t know about the peeping Tom until a few days after his visit when my neighbor told me the light bulb was unscrewed,” Dogwood Glen resident Russell McLaurin said.

McLaurin has lived in the apartment complex for four years without any problems. On May 6, he discovered that in addition to his porch lights being tampered with, the cords of the lighting fixtures along the path had also been cut.

“I immediately checked my security footage,” he said. “Here’s my wife taking out the trash at 11:29 p.m., and here we see the guy for the first time at 11:33 p.m.”

Surveillance footage shows a man in the bushes peering into Mclaurin’s apartment and his neighbors for several hours on May 1, touching himself inappropriately.

“Some of my other neighbors have expressed concern that this man might come back because he came back a second night after the first night,” he added.

The suspect was nearly caught in the early morning hours of May 2 when McLaurin’s wife closed the window too tightly while he was outside.

Now people are keeping an eye out for his possible return.

“I was great to work with at the apartment complex,” he said. “They distributed leaflets among residents to inform them of the incident and to make them aware that this man is not welcome in our apartment complex.”

McLaurin recommends people turn on their security camera notifications if there is a serial offender.

His recordings were also handed over to the police when he filed a complaint.

IMPD is following up on leads and actively conducting investigations. They hope to be arrested soon in this case.
