Police say 12-year-old found dead in N. Houston Creek was strangled, search for 2 persons of interest

HOUSTON – Houston police say a 12-year-old girl whose body was found in a creek was strangled to death.

The announcement followed further investigation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, which ruled that the 12-year-old died of strangulation.

The 12-year-old’s body was found in a creek at 400 W. Rankin Road around 6:15 a.m. Monday.

Police have released surveillance photos of two persons of interest they would like to question in connection with the girl’s death.

Anyone with information on the identity of the two persons of interest or in this case is asked to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

As the medical examiner’s office continues to work to officially identify the victim, the family hopes and prays it wasn’t her.

KPRC 2 spoke with the 12-year-old’s grandmother. She told us they had recently moved to the area and described her as quiet, independent, intelligent and gentle. She dreamed of being an actress, deeply loved music and her brother.
