All train services in Auckland suspended

There are no trains running in Auckland. Services on all four lines have been suspended.

In a statement, Auckland Transport said that due to a problem with the track infrastructure in Middlemore, services on the Western, Eastern, Southern and Onehunga lines were “suspended until further notice”.

In addition, there were ongoing industrial action affecting the services sector.

A later update said some services may resume from 2pm, but travellers were warned to expect further delays and cancellations.

Auckland Transport has been contacted for comment.

Auckland One Rail (AOR), the city’s rail operator, warned earlier this month that planned industrial action would see trains across the network operate on reduced timetables during peak periods for an unforeseen period.

AOR entered into collective bargaining negotiations with the Rail and Maritime Union of New Zealand and the discussions were referred for arbitration.

Rail and Maritime Union General Secretary Todd Valster had previously told 1News that the main problems were a lack of confidence in the AOR that the proposed working groups would solve long-standing problems.

Valster said the industrial action would consist of a ban on overtime and a refusal to work shifts that deviate from the main shift schedule.
