Migrant mob attacks two NYPD officers who were just doing their duty and checking on unsupervised children: sources

A mob of migrants faces gang assault charges after allegedly beating two New York Police Department officers outside a Queens hotel shelter, prosecutors and law enforcement officials said Tuesday.

Authorities said four men were arrested after attacking two of New York’s finest just before 4:30 a.m. Monday as police checked on three unsupervised children outside the converted Long Island City hotel that now houses asylum seekers.

When they asked about the unattended children, the men allegedly attacked them.

“To check the children’s safety, they approached a group of adults standing nearby to ensure the children were supervised,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement.

“At this point, a group of approximately five adults began hitting, kicking and shoving the officers – with two attackers throwing bicycles and hitting the officers,” Katz said.

Law enforcement sources told The Post that all four suspects — Juan Munoz, 25, Alejandro Munoz, 42, Karina Navarro-Chavez, 42, and Miguel Chiluisa, 23 — are migrants housed in city-funded facilities.

All four were arraigned on Tuesday before Judge Edward Daniels on charges of assault, attempted assault, illegal possession of weapons, resisting public authority and obstruction of public administration.

Juan, Alejandro Munoz and Navarro-Chavez also faced child endangerment charges, while Chiluisa – who was tracked down and caught nearly an hour after fleeing the fight – was additionally charged with second- and third-degree escape, prosecutors said.

A fifth suspect, a woman, hit one of the police officers on a child’s bicycle but fled the scene.

Prosecutors had requested that all four suspects be held without bail, but Daniels set bail for each of them at $50,000 cash or $150,000 surety. They are due back in court on Friday.

The injured officers were treated at a local hospital for injuries including abrasions and shoulder pain.

The cowardly attack is similar to the attack by a larger mob of migrants on two other NYPD police officers in Times Square on January 7, which led to the indictment of seven of the asylum seekers.
