Second person arrested in connection with death of Lubbock assisted living patient | KLBK | KAMC

LUBBOCK, Texas – A second person, 23-year-old Natalie Betancurt, has been arrested in connection with the death of a patient at the Lubbock State Supported Living Center, Lubbock police said.

The Texas Anti-Gang Center found Betancurt in the 1000 block of 140th Street.

She was booked into the Lubbock County Jail on a charge of assault on a disabled person and held on $100,000 bail.

(LUBBOCK, TX) – The Lubbock Police Major is currently conducting an investigation
Crimes Unit and the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit following an attack in North
Lubbock.
Lubbock Police were initially called to the 3400 block of North University Avenue at 8:05 p.m.
on June 2 regarding the alleged abuse of a resident who was brought to Covenant
Medical center with life-threatening injuries.
During the initial investigation, it emerged that 36-year-old Derrick Bell was a 53-year-old
year-old Paul Reed early in the morning. Reed’s condition worsened throughout the day,
which led to his transfer to CMC.
On June 5, an arrest warrant was issued against Bell for assault on a disabled person. Investigators
took him into custody that day without incident at the scene of the attack. He was
to the Lubbock County Detention Center where he is being held on $100,000 bail.
Reed’s death was pronounced at CMC at 10:46 p.m. on June 5.
The investigation is ongoing.
