Cedar Rapids police are responding to the third “swatting” call this year in Jefferson

CEDAR RAPIDS – Police responded to a “swatting” call at Jefferson High School on Wednesday – the third such hoax there this year.

Swatting calls are hoax reports of threats designed to incite panic and prompt a police response.

The call came in just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The school at 1243 20th St. SW imposed a soft lockdown and Cedar Rapids police responded. After the police carried out a search and found no danger, the all-clear was given at 1:36 p.m., according to police.

This is the third swatting call at the school this year. The first call was made on February 2nd and the second on April 1st.

On April 19, police arrested a 13-year-old boy on charges of making false reports to law enforcement and third-degree harassment following a stroke at Harding Middle School.
