Buffalo Bills help launch new LGBTQ flag football league

The Buffalo Bills are helping launch a new LGBTQ flag football league in the area. The team sponsors the growing league, which is launched in conjunction with the National Gay Flag Football League.

“We are excited to bring inclusive flag football to Buffalo with the support of the Buffalo Bills. This exciting addition joins 27 other cities and more than 4,000 players, including straight allies, in the National Gay Flag Football League,” said NGFFL Commissioner Joel Horton.

The Bills are just the latest NFL team to support a local LGBTQ flag football league. The New England Patriots have a long-standing relationship with the Boston League. The Los Angeles Rams also helped create a local LGBTQ flag football league. Other teams like the New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks have been strong supporters of their local leagues.

“We are excited to join the NFL and other league clubs in supporting the NGFFL,” said Michelle Roberts, Buffalo Bills vice president of community impact. “Through our sponsorship, we look forward to expanding NGFFL’s impact in our community.” »

No matter how many anti-gay voices continue to shout about the LGBTQ community and pride, major sports continue to commit to gay-inclusive efforts.

In 2002, before the birth of the NGFFL, a national gay flag football league took its first breath when Gay Bowl I took place in Southern California with three cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston. A few months later, a second Gay Bowl was held in San Francisco, adding Atlanta, Chicago and San Diego. The NGFFL was soon born.

The NFL has become increasingly interested in flag football, using the sport to increase interest in the game.
