Leander, Texas, police search for sexual assault suspect

AUSTIN, Texas – The Leander Police Department (LPD) is searching for a suspect after a young girl was sexually assaulted near Benbrook Ranch Park on Tuesday.

According to LPD, the incident occurred between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. The victim was riding her bicycle along a forest path behind the park when the suspect grabbed her and sexually assaulted her.

The suspect is described as follows:

  • White man
  • approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall
  • about 180 pounds
  • Brown buzz cut or cropped hair
  • Stubble beard
  • last seen wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans and gray shoes

Leander police and the department’s K-9 unit conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Since the case is a minor, police are not releasing any further details at this time.

In response to the incident, Leander police have increased patrols in the area and said they are working closely with the Leander Parks and Recreation Department to increase staff visibility and ensure any suspicious activity is reported immediately.

The incident appears to be isolated, but LPD said it encourages anyone visiting park areas to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings and to immediately report any suspicious activity to police.
