Atlanta Falcons announce two new additions to Ring of Honor

ATLANTA, Ga. (WSAV) – Tuesday afternoon, the Atlanta Falcons announced they will induct former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and Falcons owner Arthur Blank into the Ring of Honor.

Ryan played 14 seasons in Atlanta and is currently the Falcons all-time leader in passing yards (59,735), attempts (5,242), completions (8,003) and touchdown passes (367). ).

The Falcons drafted Ryan with the 3rd overall pick in 2008 out of Boston College. Ryan was a part of BC’s first All-American team and won the Manning Award as well as the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

During his time with the team, the Falcons went 124-109-1 and made the playoffs 6 times. The team reached the Super Bowl in 2016 where they lost to the New England Patriots. Ryan would go on to win the League MVP that season.

Ryan would play one season for the Indianapolis Colts in 2022. He finished his career by signing a one-day contract with Atlanta.

Arthur Blank is an American businessman best known for being the co-founder of the home improvement retailer The Home Depot. Blank purchased the Falcons in February 2002. Before becoming owner, the Falcons had never posted back-to-back winning seasons.

The Falcons will hold induction ceremonies for Blank and Ryan in separate games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this season. Blank will be honored on September 22 during the Week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Ryan will receive his flowers on October 3 during the Week 5 contest with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Currently, the Falcons Ring of Honor has 12 members.
