Woman charged after North Andover crash that killed another woman – NBC Boston

A woman has been arrested following a car crash in North Andover, Massachusetts that left another woman dead this weekend.

The accident occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday at the Daeva Hair Salon on Main Street, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday. The victim, 37-year-old Diana Melo of Lawrence, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver, 28-year-old Vickiana Vargas-Guevara of North Andover, appeared in Lawrence District Court on Monday. She faces charges including intoxicated manslaughter, intoxicated reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in property damage.

Prosecutors did not disclose whether Melo was in the vehicle or was hit.

At her arraignment, Vargas-Guevara was held on $50,000 bail. If bail is set, she must remain under house arrest and GPS monitoring and is prohibited from driving or drinking alcohol. She must also undergo a drug evaluation with follow-up, prosecutors said.

Vargas-Guevara must appear in court again on July 17 for a preliminary hearing. It was initially unclear whether she has a lawyer.
