A Riverside County felon who escaped from the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga over the weekend was arrested in Los Angeles on Monday, June 17, authorities said.

Deshaun Maurice Stamps, 29, was charged with attempted murder and assault with a firearm on a police officer last November, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office. He fled the sports field on Sunday afternoon, but authorities have not released any information about how he managed to do so.

Stamps was arrested by Los Angeles police on Monday and was about to be returned to the custody of sheriff’s officials.

Last week, Stamps was ordered by a judge to undergo a psychiatric evaluation after the judge expressed doubts about Stamps’ mental competency to stand trial, court records show. He was scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 14 to hear the results of the evaluation.
