SPD fraud warning – Sheridan Media

The Sheridan Police Department announced that it learned of a new fraud attempt on the afternoon of June 13, 2024.

According to the agency, at least two Sheridan residents received phone calls threatening legal and/or civil action for failing to appear in Sheridan County District Court.

The scammer demanded payment. Sheridan residents did not fall for the scam and contacted the court to confirm that there were no warrants out for their arrest and no date had been scheduled.

The calls appeared to come from a Casper number. The full number is currently unavailable and the SPD suspects it may have been “spoofed.”

The SPD wants to inform the public that no one will receive a call from the courts or law enforcement demanding money or funds. For security and other reasons, law enforcement will not inform individuals if they have a warrant out for their arrest. The SPD states that most people know if they have or have missed a court date.

If you believe you are a victim of this or any other scam, call SPD investigators at (307)672-2413.
