A twelve-year-old girl was raped by three teenagers in an abandoned hangar in a Paris suburb. The alleged anti-Semitic attack is said to have been traced back to them.

The girl, from Courbevoie in the Hauts-de-Seine suburb northwest of the French capital, told police she was raped last weekend.

She said she was walking with her boyfriend to Henri Regnault Square when three teenagers grabbed her and took her to an abandoned hangar on the site of a nearby old nursery.

One of the attackers was said to be her 12-year-old ex-boyfriend, who accused her of hiding her Jewish faith from him, Le Parisien reports. The three boys allegedly beat the girl and insulted her faith before raping her.

The local public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the rape and the alleged perpetrators have been identified as three boys aged 12, 13 and 14 from Rueil-Malmaison, also in Hauts-de-Seine.

They were arrested on Monday after a gynecological examination at a local hospital confirmed the rape.

The boys appeared before a judge this afternoon and reportedly admitted to the rape.

The girl’s ex-boyfriend told police he was angry that she had hidden her Jewish heritage from him and wanted revenge, Le Parisien reported.

Investigators allegedly found anti-Semitic comments and images on the boy’s cell phone, including a burned Israeli flag.

One of his friends reportedly told police that he beat the girl because she said bad things about Palestine.

The local prosecutor’s office said in a statement that the boys were accused of aggravated rape, aggravated sexual abuse, attempted extortion, invasion of privacy, death threats, violence and insult. In the last two cases, the charges were made more serious because they admitted that the attack had something to do with the girl’s religion.
