3 children injured after boating accident in Pointe Coupee Parish

POINTE COUPEE PARISH, Louisiana (BRPROUD) – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating after three children were injured in a boating accident on the False River.

On Saturday, June 15, agents were called to False River around 4:30 p.m. and learned that a boat was pulling three children in an inflatable boat. The children fell into the water and were waiting for their boat to return and pick them up when a 25-foot pontoon boat was nearby and ran them over, LDWF said.

A 14-year-old boy was flown to hospital by helicopter with cuts to his lower legs and feet, but is expected to make a full recovery, according to the LDWF. One child suffered a concussion and the other had minor injuries.

“The pontoon operator stated that he lost control of the pontoon boat and attempted to avoid the children in the water,” LDWF said.

Alcohol is not suspected at this time. Agents have seized the boat and are conducting further investigations into the incident.

This is an evolving story.
