Buffalo Bills Named One of NFL’s Biggest ‘Losers’ for 2024 Offseason

The Buffalo Bills roster has seen some major shake-ups this offseason. The Bills faced salary cap challenges after fielding a team that still failed to get past the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs last season. The Bills were recently named as one of the league’s biggest losers for their offseason moves.

The Buffalo Bills lost a crucial part of the offense

The Bills had a fire sale before free agency as the team climbed out of the red before the start of the new league year. As previously reported on GH, the Bills then made a major decision by trading star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in an effort to make the team less selfish:

According to Matthew Fairburn and Tim Graham of AthleticismMcDermott appeared to allude to Diggs during an answer he gave on the chemistry of the 2024 bills:

McDermott was asked what he liked about the “synergy” of so many new faces.

“I loved it,” McDermott replied. Everyone is focused, it seems. Even though it’s spring and sometimes guys have things to do outside of football at this time of year, you respect that. But when they’ve been here, they’ve been focused and worked well together and taken a really more selfless approach, I would say.

Altruism seemed to be an intentional word choice and one that could be a theme this version of the bills emphasizes. The roster lost some star power when the Bills traded Diggs, but perhaps this unselfish approach will help the Bills get the most out of the offense as a whole.

Can the Buffalo Bills stay competitive after losing so many players?

The loss of star power has taken a toll on analysts’ expectations for the Bills for the upcoming season. Mike Jones with Athleticism thinks the Bills were one of the league’s losers this offseason:

Could the Bills’ Super Bowl window be closing? It’s possible since this team is trying to retool on the fly. The trade of Stefon Diggs and the free agency departure of Gabe Davis leaves quarterback Josh Allen without his two best wide receivers. Meanwhile, the Bills also lost impact players Tre’Davious White, Mitch Morse and Jordan Poyer.

They drafted wide receiver Keon Coleman, but for a team trying to fend off the Dolphins in the AFC East and catch up to the Chiefs and Bengals in the conference, the Bills appear to be going in the wrong direction.

It’s hard to count out the Bills with Josh Allen. But he’ll have to be nearly perfect for them to have a chance at winning the AFC East this season. This season feels more like a rebuild than a recharge.
