A suspect is dead after a standoff at a Triad vineyard, according to deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.On Monday, Davidson County Central Communications received a 911 call about a domestic incident at The Grape Escape in Lexington, 3583 Bethesda Road. Simmons said as deputies approached the home, they were fired upon by the suspect, identified as Neal Thomas. Thomas was shot in the hand by deputies and then went inside the home, which police said led to a lengthy standoff. Simmons said they did not know what condition Thomas was in after being shot in the hand. Simmons said they then heard several shots fired by the suspect inside the home. Police then attempted to speak with Thomas. A SERT team was called and as they approached the home, they saw Thomas had shot himself and also four dogs that were also dead inside the home. As is standard practice with all police-involved shootings, the DCSO contacted the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, which responded and is conducting its own investigation into the incident. On Monday, Davidson County Central Communications received a 911 call about a domestic incident at Grape Escape in Lexington, 3583 Bethesda Road. The caller informed dispatch that shots had been fired inside the home.

Davidson County Sheriff Richie Simmons said the woman managed to escape the home and hide before she was later rescued.

Simmons said as officers approached the home, they were fired upon by the suspect, identified as Neal Thomas. Thomas was shot in the hand by officers and then went into the home, which police said led to a lengthy standoff.
