Click here for the California fires

June 18, 2024 – 19 large, uncontrolled fires are currently being fought nationwide under full firefighting strategies, while 10 with strategies other than total fire suppression. Three complex response teams were deployed to fight the Post Fire in California, the Aero Fire in California, and the Pioneer Fire in Washington.

To date, in 2024, 18,849 wildfires have burned 2,099,498 acres of land across the country. While that’s fewer fires overall, it’s burned more acres than the 10-year average.

The National Predictive Services staff of the National Interagency Coordination Center has released the National Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook for the period June through September. For more information on the current Outlook, visit the Outlook page of the NICC website.

To err is human, but when it comes to wildfires, human error can lead to mass destruction. Thousands of fires are caused by humans each year in the United States. The main causes of these fires are loss of control of burning debris, unattended and improperly or not extinguished campfires, and sparks or heat transfer from the use of vehicles and equipment such as chainsaws or recreational vehicles including trailers.
