Worker dies in mining accident in Jwaneng

(IDEX Online) – A contractor has died in an accident at Debswana’s Jwaneng mine in Botswana.

It was a crane andand drilling rig, equipment generally used to blast holes for ore extraction in open pit mines.

Debswana, a 50:50 joint venture between the Botswana government and De Beers, said it was investigating the accident, which occurred on Monday (June 17).

In a statement, the company said: “It is with regret and deep sadness that we inform you of a tragic incident involving a crane and drilling rig at our Jwaneng mine which resulted in the fatal injury of an employee of one of our business partners on the morning of Monday, June 17, 2024.”
