Houston Fire Department Regulations, Contract Approved by City Comptroller’s Office

According to an internal memo obtained by KPRC 2 Investigates, Chris Hollins told city council members his office agreed to the terms proposed by Mayor John Whitmire.

The email reads in part:

“After careful review and evaluation of the responses to every question posed by my office to the Mayor and his team regarding the proposed fire regulations and collective bargaining agreement, my office has approved the relevant items for your consideration to the order of the Council day. »

The approval comes after weeks of back-and-forth between the mayor and the city comptroller due to additional questions he and other city council members had regarding the settlement.

Mayor Whitmire answered these questions in an emailed document shared by his office last week, when the vote was initially planned but postponed.

This agreement was also one of Mayor Whitmire’s campaign promises, in which he pledged to ensure better working conditions and fair pay for HFD members, and this agreement appears to fulfill that promise.

On Tuesday morning, a spokesperson for the mayor’s office confirmed that the site was certified, but later added that it was still not officially the case.
