Willard man killed in car crash in Wakeman Township

According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Norwalk Post, a 37-year-old Willard man died in a car crash late June 17 in Wakeman Township.

Shane Webb was driving a 2015 Jeep Wrangler when the accident happened, the press release said.

The incident occurred at 11:27 p.m. on West River Road north of Ogan Road in Wakeman Township, Huron County, the news release said.

The Jeep was traveling south on West River Road when it left the right side of the road and struck the cover of a sewer, the news release said. It rolled several times before striking a large flower bed, a fence post and a tree.

Webb was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle, the press release said. He suffered fatal injuries.

Alcohol, drug use and speed are suspected to be the causes of the accident, the press release states.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Wakeman Fire Department, Wakeman Police Department, Citizens Ambulance and Interstate Towing.
