Police arrest three dogs that attacked two people in Roy Park

ROY – Two people were injured Monday when three dogs escaped near a park and bit them, according to Roy police.

According to Roy Police, officers were called around 4:15 p.m. because three dogs were “being aggressive and attempting to approach a child at Emma Russell Park at 5700 S. 4300 West.” When officers arrived at the scene, they received several calls reporting people being bitten.

When officers arrived, they discovered the three dogs in a pasture on the west side of 4300 West.

“Officers observed that the dogs were aggressive and attacking horses in the pasture,” police said.

When officers attempted to capture the dogs, one of the animals was safely detained, but a second “attempted to attack an officer, who fired a beanbag projectile, striking the attacking dog and stopping the attack,” police said.

The injured dog ran back to his nearby home. Officers followed him and made contact with the owner, who then helped them detain the third dog. The injured dog was taken to animal control for treatment. The two uninjured dogs were taken to the Weber County Animal Shelter, where they will be quarantined for 10 days.

Police have not disclosed what breed of dog was involved. Two people received medical treatment for bites to their lower extremities, police said. No further information about the victims has been released.

According to Roy police, the case is ongoing and criminal charges may be filed against the owner.
