Girl waiting with family for train at Ajmer railway station kidnapped and raped: Police

An 11-year-old girl from Madhya Pradesh was allegedly abducted, attacked and raped by an unidentified assailant on Monday night as she slept with her family on a platform at Ajmer railway station in Rajasthan, police said.

According to police, the girl came to Ajmer with her family two weeks ago to visit the Ajmer Dargah. “The victim hails from Bhind in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. As they all had planned to take a train from Ajmer to Gwalior on Tuesday morning, they slept on platform 4 around 9 pm on Monday. The incident came to light when her father found her missing at 1.30 am,” said Anil Devkalla, the station house officer (SHO) of Ajmer Government Railway Police (GRP).

“The girl was sleeping at her grandmother’s house. But when her father woke up in the night to book a ticket for her morning train, she was missing along with a bag. After the incident, the family reported him to the GRP police at around 2.30 am,” said Devkalla.

“After a two-hour search, the girl was found unconscious in a coach of the Ajmer-Gangapur intercity express train at 4.30 am. Her body bore multiple injuries. She was suspected to have been raped and later brutally assaulted by the accused. However, the facts of the case are yet to be ascertained. She was immediately admitted to the local hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment,” the SHO said.

Meanwhile, the girl’s father has also filed a first-in-complaint (FIR) under Sections 376 (rape) and 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the corresponding sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).

“Their medical examination has been done. An FSL team has also been deployed at the spot. Prima facie, only one person has committed the crime, as shown by the CCTV footage. However, there are not enough CCTV cameras installed in Ajmer railway station. So, we are also talking to the other people on the platform. Further investigation is underway,” Devkalla said.
