First weather warning:

  • First weather alert day: The risk of storms continues into the evening
  • Tornado watch until 5 p.m
  • The active pattern finally breaks through Thursday into the weekend

The first alert weather day continues: We have already been hit by the first wave of storms, with large hail (up to the size of a baseball) being the primary cause of damage. Significant potential is possible with the second round until the evening. While some of the storm fuel was used up in the first round, the strength of the later round will depend on how much fuel still accumulates. A level 4/5 risk remains for areas to the south where there is the best potential for all types of severe weather. Iron and Reynolds counties in particular must be prepared for an increased threat. We have a level 2/5 severe weather risk for the subway. Large hail and damaging winds remain a risk on this loop closer to the subway. Localized flooding is possible, particularly from St. Louis to the south. Watches are already being issued in advance of these storms.

A tornado warning remains in effect until 5 p.m. With the arrival of the second wave of storms, monitoring is expected to be extended.

Beyond today, we see a cooler, calmer and mostly dry weather pattern Thursday through the weekend. Scattered showers can’t be ruled out from Thursday afternoon through Friday, but that’s not even part of our official 7-day forecast. This is a big change from our recent pattern of warm and stormy weather.
