Early morning fire in Slatington under investigation

A fire early Tuesday morning in Slatington is under investigation.

County police posted on social media around 4:30 a.m. that a fire had broken out in the 200 block of Center Street. That street, from Union Street to Williams Street, is closed for an extended period of time, according to the police department.

Photos of the accident scene posted on social media showed flames and thick smoke rising from the roof of a building.

Trooper Nathan Branosky, a state police spokesman, said around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday that a state police fire marshal was requested to determine the cause of the fire. The fire marshal was still on the scene at the time.
