JSO: Foul play suspected after person found dead in Brentwood

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said officers were initially dispatched to the area to “check on well-being” but later began investigating a death.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, an “adult” was found dead in the Jacksonville neighborhood of Brentwood on Monday afternoon, as police suspect foul play.

Sergeant Reed of the JSO said patrol officers responded to the 300 block of West 41st Street at 4:29 p.m. as part of a “well-being check.”

“The investigation by officers on scene resulted in the investigation becoming a death investigation,” Reed said. “During the investigation, a deceased individual was found on the property.”

According to police, one person was arrested and taken to the Police Memorial Building downtown for questioning.

“At this time, we do not know the circumstances of the incident or the relationships of those involved,” Reed said.

Furthermore, the cause of death of the person is unknown.

According to Reed, investigators from the JSO’s homicide and crime scene units, the coroner’s office and the district attorney’s office are conducting the ongoing investigation.

The sheriff’s office did not release the identity of the adult or say whether he was a man or a woman.

Anyone with information about the person’s death is asked to call the JSO non-emergency line at 904-630-0500 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
