MPs: Motorcyclist killed after collision with fallen tree

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, Michigan (WOOD) – Authorities say a motorcyclist was killed when he crashed into a fallen tree near Bloomingdale.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report Monday of a motorcyclist who struck a large tree that had fallen across 48 1/2 Street near County Road 388 in Columbia Township.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 38-year-old man from the Columbia Township area dead. According to the sheriff’s office, it is unknown how long he had been there before officers found him.

Investigators said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. They found two grams of methamphetamine and a glass pipe in his pants pocket. There were skid marks on the dirt road about 12 meters from the impact site, the sheriff’s office said.

It is not known whether he was under the influence of methamphetamine or alcohol at the time of the accident, the press release said.

The name of the motorcyclist was not released.
