USA: 6 people, including 3 children, killed, 5 injured in house fire in Georgia

A fire in a house southwest of Atlanta claimed six lives early Monday morning, according to the coroner’s office, including three young children aged 6, 12 and 13. The oldest victim is said to be over 70 years old.

A Coweta County firefighter suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Of the 11 people inside the home, five survivors were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Some of them suffered “serious injuries,” according to the Coweta County Fire Department. Firefighters received the emergency call at 4:57 a.m. and arrived at the scene north of Newnan, Georgia.

“The first unit arrived within nine minutes and found over 50 percent of the house engulfed in flames, with fire coming from the roof,” Coweta County Fire Department officials said.

The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office expressed its condolences, saying, “Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends who suffered this tragic loss. We ask everyone to keep the victims and their loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.”

The Coweta County Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire along with county and state fire officials and the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
